Visitations and Revisitations

Visitations and Revisitations featured four pieces and a number of new visual algorithms including this circular presentation of an audio waveform.

Visitations and Revisitations is a series of four pieces by Matt Rogalsky, that was performed live at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. Visuals for each performance featured a number of new algorithms including a circular representation of audio waveforms as well as several flowers based on spiralling primitive shapes.

The Octoflower employs an algorithm that pulls particles from the edge of an octagon into it's centre only to repeat again

When designing a circular waveform, it was important to modify the radius of the circle such that the waveform reconnects at zero amplitude. Otherwise, a gap appears where the waveform reconnects. The radius of each circle was in this way dependant on the resonant frequency of the sound it was modelling.

These algorithms were discussed as part of a panel by Art the Science in collaboration with ArtSci Salon called Paint to Programming, presented several weeks later at the Fields Institute in Toronto.
